Welcome to my 12 weeks of Christmas blog series

Welcome to my very first blog series featuring the 12 weeks of Christmas. Did you realise that it is only 12 and a bit weeks until Christmas!! EEEKKK!!! Where has the year gone! I don’t know about you but my year has flown past.

12 weeks w1

So for my first week, I’d like to share a couple of cards featuring the Reason for the Season stamp set and the matching Festive Flower Builder punch.

You may have noticed that I have a love affair with the Home for Christmas DSP. Well it is very lovely, you know!! It’s always hard to decide which side of the paper to use as both are so nice. For my first card, I chose the poinsettia paper and layer it with Mossy Meadow, Real Red and Daffodil Delight. I added a piece of the Very Vanilla Subtle Stripes Satin Ribbon and then created my sentiment piece using the Lots of labels framelits. I inked up the stamp using markers. I love this look!! I used 2 of the little crosses from the Festive Flower builder punch to make a little flower and added a rhinestone for a touch of bling. I’m very happy with how it turned out!!

12 weeks project 1-3

For my second project, I just had to create a poinsettia!! Some of the videos that I have watched showing how to put the flower together have suggested folding the petals in half to create dimension but I don’t like the look of the crease. So once I had punched out the petals (8 large, 4 small and 2 of the double petals) from the gold foil paper, I used my bone folder to curve the edges of the petals. A much more subtle look, I think!! I glued it together using multi-purpose glue and left it to dry. I carefully added the crosses on the top and included a pearl which had been coloured.

I decided to make a square card and added a layer of gold foil paper and a piece of the Winter Wonderland Vellum stack. You really can’t have too much gold, you know!! I added some sequins and used the note tag punch for the sentiment.

Here’s a close up of the flower.

I hope you have enjoyed my cards this week. Check back again next Wednesday at 6pm for the next instalment!!

Pennsationals Christmas Pre-Order Swap

My fabulous team, The Pennsationals, is having a swap this month, using the new products that we were lucky enough to be able to pre-order from the 2015 Holiday Catalogue which is coming out on 1st September.

A swap is where you make, say 10, of the same card and then post 9 out to the other swappers and you will receive back 9 lovely cards of inspiration!! And who doesn’t like to receive happy mail, rather than a bill!!

Whilst it seems a bit early to be doing Christmas cards (and I think the postie will be wondering why there are Christmas stamps on the envelope!!), it’s not too early to get a start on your cards and decorations. There are so many lovely stamps and products in this year’s Holiday Catalogue, that I think I need from now to have enough time to play with everything!!

I decided to use Reason for the Season stamp set and the matching Festive Flower builder punch. This is just one of about 17 bundles in this catalogue. Love a good bundle!! Not telling how many I bought, lol! Ok, not 17!!

penn swap

To create the flower, you will need 8 of the larger petals, 4 of the smaller petal and 2 of the long petals. I then stamped the petals after punching as I was using up my scraps. I don’t think it really makes a difference as to when you stamp them. As the stamp set is polymer, it’s easy to see where you are stamping.

I then punched a 1″ circle from the same cardstock as the petals and using my Multi-purpose glue pen, put a blob of glue and stuck down the four large petals in a cross formation. Then a bit more glue and the remaining 4 petals as an alternate cross. On a second circle, I stuck the four smaller petals in a cross and then added the two longer petals on top of that. Then more glue onto the base and attach to the top of the larger petals. I then punched out two of the little “x” on the punch in Crushed Curry and carefully glued them to the flower. I then set it aside to dry. You could use glue dots to attach the flower together but the glue does give you a bit of wiggle room if the petals isn’t in the right place. I also made 10 flowers for my swaps, so I didn’t want to use a whole roll of glue dots!!

I then layered up my card with a Cherry Cobbler base, then Garden Green, Gold foil (love) and Typeset DSP. Once the flower was dry, I attached it to a doily with a string of sequins and then stamped the sentiment from the Reason for the Season stamp set.

I’m very happy with how my card turned out!! I hope the girls in my team like it too.

Happy Stamping
