20 October 2013 – Are you ready to start trimming your Christmas Tree?

You’ll be glad to know that I’ve bought a new tree!! I did a practice run to make sure all the pieces were there (they are!) and one of the kitty’s also did a practice run up the middle branch!! Naughty boy!!

I’m getting ready to start trimming my tree soon (I’m thinking mid-November) so I need to make a few new ornaments for my new tree.

I love the new Festive Flurry Stamp set in the Holiday Catalogue. There are so many different options of what you can make. I like the colours that Stampin’ Up! are using this year for Christmas but I also like the traditional red and green as well.

I used the gold foil sheets on the back of the ornament and put the ribbon between the two layers. I wanted to put a bit of glitter on it (you can’t have a Christmas decoration without a bit of bling!), so I dug out my heat and stick embossing powder and embossed the gold glitter on. It was a windy day when I made it so there was a bit of glitter around the craft room!!

The new magnetic platform makes it so easy to cut out each snow flake, holding it in place as it goes through the big shot.

I also love the Frosted Finishes embellishments!! They look so pretty in person. The photos don’t do it justice! My stamp club girls enjoyed making this one!!

Stamp Set: Festive Flurry Stamp Set
Paper: Gold foil, Season of Style DSP
Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Versamark
Accessories: Big Shot, magnetic platform, organza ribbon, gold glitter, heat & stick embossing powder, Cherry cobbler embossing powder, festive flurry framelits, frosted finishes embellishments

I also wanted to show the girls the gorgeous ornament that is featured in the Holiday Catalogue. You can watch a video on how to make it from the fabulous Carrie Cudney from Stampin’ Up! here.

It’s a bit fiddly, but once you’ve got the main piece made, it’s just a matter of sticking together with your hot glue gun.

I think the most challenging problem I had was getting the ornament to stay still whilst I was trying to take the photo!!

Here’s a close up of the detail.

11 October 2013 – Joy to the World, Christmas is coming!!

It’s only 75 days until Christmas!! Does the thought of that make you panic!! I have to look for a new tree this year as my kitty cats had fun with the old one and we had to throw it away after Christmas last year. It’s so hard to find just the right tree!!

In the spirit of Christmas decorations, Stampin’ Up! have a great kit in the latest Seasonal catalogue for making gorgeous banners. We have the Build a Banner Simply Created Kit which includes 18 blank canvas paper pennants (6 each of 3 designs), 2.7m of jute twine, alphabet and image stencils and a Stampin’ Spritzer for only $34.95.

Then there is the Chistmas Banner Simply Created Accessory kit which includes gorgeous bits and bobs for you to decorate your banner. This kit is $16.95.

I had a day off on Tuesday so I whipped out my hot glue gun and got crafting. I found that I got a better result using a sponge dauber rather than spritzing. It was also less messy!! You should have seen my hands!!

I used just about everything in the accessory kit. I especially love the Bermuda Bay/Pool Party ribbon!!
