It’s a Z-Fold kind of Christmas

It’s not hard to believe that Spring is just around the corner living in Queensland this week.  It’s been so warm and lovely here this week!  Although I hope it’s not an indication of how hot it’s going to be in Summer!

Since I saw Bronwyn’s Carols of Christmas Labels Double Z-Fold Box tutorial, I’ve been wanting to have a play with it.  I love her version with the trees but I want to try something different.

My amazing up-up-line Simone Bartrum recently attended the Stampin’ Up! incentive trip to Thailand and she was asked to create some amazing projects using the Ready for Christmas stamp set and the matching Christmas Staircase thinlit dies.  You can check out some of her projects here.  This stamp set and die bundle will be available in the 2017 Holiday Catalogue.  Well, Simone’s gorgeous projects inspired me to pre-order this bundle (Thanks for enabling me, Simone!!)

There is the most adorable dachshund in this stamp set (and happily, there is a matching thinlit, so no fussy cutting!!).

I was actually going to use the cute staircase which is featured in this set but it was a little wider than the largest Label die so I decided to go with the Christmas tree.  I have to say that this tree is amazing.  Firstly, you stamp the tree and cut it out with the thinlits.  Then there are two branch dies which are the same, but allow you to cut out two branches at once.  But then when I was layering the branches on the tree, they match the shape of the tree exactly!!  But then, would we expect anything less from Stampin’ Up! Oh I forgot to mention that I also put Wink of Stella over the branches of the tree to add a bit of sparkle like tinsel.

I used the Wood Textures DSP Stack for the base.  I thought it would look a bit like timber flooring at the base of a tree.  The cute ornaments are also from the set. Fortunately, the stamp and die have the three attached together so it’s much easier to cut out.  I just coloured these using the markers.

I wanted to put a sentiment on the front so I stamped the label in Garden Green.  Then for the fun part of adding the dog!!  He’s so cute but he’s a naughty boy as he is trying to get at the cookies on the plate!   This set is so fun, that it even includes a thinlit that cuts out the sign and cookies!  I did colour the table, biscuits and the dog using Early Espresso Ink and blender pens.

Coffee Easel card with a twist

I’m excited to share another tutorial from Addinktive Designs with you this week.

The tutorial I have decided to focus on is the Coffee Café Easel Card.  You can check out Bronwyn’s card here.

This is another easy to understand tutorial with lots of clear pictures to help you create your project.

I don’t have the Coffee Cups framelits or the Coffee Café stamp set so I decided to use the Lots of Labels framelits with the Coffee Break DSP.

I also used my retired paper piercing pack as it goes nicely with the framelits and adds a look similar to the stitched shape framelits.  For the sentiment on the front, I used the Tabs for Everything stamp set in Soft Sky and Garden Green which I punched out with the Circle tab punch.

On the inside, I have stamped the sentiment from the Just Add Text stamp set and hand cut it out.

If you would like to make your own version of the Coffee Café Easel card, you can purchase the tutorial here.

I’ll be back next week with another great tutorial for you.

Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

CTC108 – Holiday Kits

Hi there!!  I’m back from holidays and finally caught up enough to join back in with CTC.  I had a great time cruising to New Zealand with my mum and sister.  New Zealand is a gorgeous place!  I’m going back there to explore further soon.

So this week at CTC, we are casing the Holiday Kits.

I had made the Stitched with Cheer kit for my Pop as his birthday present in October so that he had cards to send out for Christmas.  I give him xmas cards for his birthday and birthday cards for his xmas present!!  Keeps him going for the family all year around!!  After all, what do you get a 93 year old (aside from chocolate coated peanuts!!)

But I didn’t have any cards left so I decided to create my own using the samples as inspiration.  This is why I love Casing the Catty as it goes to show that you don’t need to re-invent the wheel all the time and cards don’t have to be over the top to be lovely.

I used the Warmth & Cheer DSP Stack as my dsp of choice.  I also used the gold twine from the Baker’s Twine Trio pack and separated the strands to just 2 to make it less chunky.

I was trying to experiment with creating my own background on the next one.  Not sure it was quite successful, but oh well! I used the Stitched Shape framelits (which will be back in stock soon) and added the silver ribbon from the Glitter ribbon combo pack.

I re-created the trees on the third card using one of the trees from the Perfect Pines framelits in the Annual Catalogue.

I hope you are inspired by the cards I have created from this kit.  Check out what Kelly has made using the same kit as her

Don’t forget you can join in with our monthly challenge here by simply casing the catalogue and sharing on your blog and joining our link.

12 weeks of Christmas – Week 9

12 weeks w9

Well sometimes the best laid plans go astray!! So now, I’m back on track again.

This week I am focusing on the Peaceful Wreath stamp set. I was so excited to see this set in the catalogue so I could utilize one of my favourite dies, Wondrous Wreath.

But for today, I decided to use one of the other stamps in the set. Yes, there is more than just a cute wreath!!

At this time of year, it’s helpful to have little gift bags or boxes on hand in case of emergency gifts. The square pillow box die is great for this! It’s retiring at the end of the Holiday Catalogue, so make sure you grab it now!!

I cut out 2 pillows and then ran them through the big shot with the Woodlands Embossing folder. A quick couple of folds and a strip of fast fuse and the box is done!

I then stamped the branch with Mossy Meadow ink and hand cut it out. I then coloured the holly leaves with my blender pens and added some Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details on the holly berries. And then left it to dry so there were no accidents.

To create the sentiment, I carefully placed the stamps individually on the block (about 3 times before I got a nice placement) then stamped in Cherry Cobbler and cut out with the Lots of Labels framelits. A piece of burlap around the pillow box and some gold cord behind the sentiment to add some texture.

CTC59 – Christmas Trees

We only have one more week to go at Caseing the Catty before we finish up for the year. Don’t worry, though, we will be back again early next year with the new Occasions catalogue!!

We are caseing the Christmas Trees featured in the 2015 Holiday catalogue this week. I thought I would have no trouble choosing a project but when I sat down to create, I was a little stumped!! I eventually found a card that I could case, on page 28, which features the Season of Cheer DSP which I somehow managed not to order!!

ctc59 bec a

So I decided to have a go at creating my own background. I have used the Thick Whisper White card stock, which I love, and did a wash of Pool Party using my aqua blender. I let it dry and then stamped the tree from Project Life Hello December 2015 stamp set in Old Olive. I love how it turned out!!

I then stamped the poinsettia from the Reason for the Season stamp set in Old Olive and using the matching flower stamp, stamped the flower in Cherry Cobbler (Gotta love two step stamping with polymer stamps!). It was a bit darker than I intended so I did a second one in Real Red. I did two of each colour then hand cut them out.

I inked up the sentiment using markers and cut it out with my favourite die, Lots of Labels. I added a piece of the White Glitter ribbon (which is retiring, so make sure you get some as it is soo sparkly!!)

This is the Cherry Cobbler version.

And here is Real Red.

I hope you have been inspired to try to make your own background even if you don’t have the DSP.

Next up on the hop is the talented Julia Quinn.

CTC55 – Catty Section – Into the Woods

I am really enjoying caseing the 2015 Holiday catalogue this year. There are so many lovely projects to choose from!!

This week at Caseing the Catty we are up to the Into the Woods section. I don’t have many of the sets in this section but one of my favourite sets of the whole catalogue is Lighthearted Leaves. I have seen so many lovely cards done using this set. So, of course, it was the stamp set of choice this week.

I am caseing the sponged card on page 44 of the catty.

ctc55 p44

This was such an easy card to make. I made a template of the leaf and then sponged with the lighter colour. This is a polymer set which made it so easy to stamp the second image over the top.

I’ve gone with a different colour theme for the two cards I made. One combo of Soft Sky and Marina Mist and the other Perfect Plum and Blackberry Bliss. I added a touch of bling by using some silver thread. I don’t seem to have the knack of artistically arranging twine or thread, but you get the idea!!

I used the washi tape punch and the thanks sentiment from the Cottage Greetings stamp set.

ctc55 Bec a

For the second card, I used the Lots of Labels framelits and trimmed it down and the happy birthday stamp from the Cottage Greetings set.

ctc55 bec b

I’m very happy with the end result!! I might have to do this with some more sets!!

12 weeks of Christmas – Week 5

12 weeks w5

I can’t believe that we are in November and on the count down to Christmas. This year is just flying past so quickly!! It will be my birthday soon!! (eeek!!)

This week, I am focusing on the Cozy Christmas stamp set. I love this set and I think it’s perfect for colouring with markers. It also does very nicely with my favourite Christmas DSP, Home for Christmas!!

For my first card, I chose the Christmas Wishes set, then had a look at which piece of the DSP I could use. I decided to go with the snowy houses. Even though we don’t have snow in Australia at Christmas, I still like to see snowy Christmas things!! I based my colour choices on the colours of the DSP, Real Red, Pool Party and Mossy Meadow. Did you know that the co-ordinating colours are all listed on the back of the packet the DSP comes in? Very helpful, indeed!

As I said, I think these stamps just lend themselves to colouring with markers. It’s a technique that always makes me happy when I do it. My go-to framelits at the moment seem to be Lots of Labels and I have created a layer with Mossy Meadow by cutting a label in half. And of course, you can’t go past the gorgeous Snowflake Elements and an Iced Rhinestone!!

12 w w5 a

For my second card, I decided to use the bauble piece of the Home for Christmas DSP. Whilst Pacific Point isn’t really a Christmas colour, it makes a good accent layer and makes the baubles really stand out.

I got a bit excited with layering my card!! Mossy Meadow base, then Pacific Point, Gold Foil, Real Red and then the DSP!! Phew!! As this DSP is quite a stand out on it’s own, I matted the sentiment piece on Gold Foil and added a simple gold thread bow.

I wonder who will be getting these for Christmas? I hope they like it!
