This week at CASE-ing the Catty, we are caseing the Winter Wonderland section of the 2015 Holiday catalogue.
There are so many lovely cards in this section, but I wanted to try out the Wonderland stamp set. I will never buy the Lovely as a Tree stamp set as it’s just not my thing. AND, if I do buy it, that will be the year it retires!!! So the tree in this set reminds of the stamps in Lovely as a Tree, so that’s the closest I’m getting to it!!
I was inspired to make 2 different cards with this set on pages 22 and 24.
I really love the Winter Wonderland Specialty DSP but I’ve struggled to use some of the patterns as they are quite bold. I liked this card using the gold stripe and stamping directly on the DSP. I tried three different black inks (Staz on, Memento and the new archival basic black) and found I got the nicest image from the archival basic black. Whilst I waited for it to fully dry, I stamped the sentiment onto vellum and used the banner triple punch on the ends. The original has stitching on it but I’m not that keen to get my sewing machine out for literally 2 cms of stitching so banner it is!!
Did you notice that the original card also has a small piece of doily on it? I didn’t until I looked closely. I thought I would try out the spider web doilies for something different but I’m not sure it worked. Oh well. I added a snowflake and some gold cording trim.
For my second sample, I used Cucumber Crush for the trees and Soft Sky for the snow. After having some stamping issues (after 3 attempts, I wasn’t doing it all again!!), I decided to add a gold banner, created once again with my new favourite punch!! Another snowflake and a gold bow and it’s all done!!

I love these trees in this stamp set, but I just have not purchased it yet, have to revisit my list again now, love they are just so different using the different colour combinations.
Great cards this week Bec! I love your extra accent of the gold banner on the second card. It really makes the sentiment ‘pop’ and give another dimension to your card.
Love it. I have lovely as a tree so am ok for the tree, very inspirational ideas, thanks Bec.
Stunning cards Bec. Thanks for the tip on the Archival ink. While I love this stamp set, I do find it a challenge. You have done such a lovely job I might have to rethink & use it more.
Well Rebecca I have the same philosophy about the Lovely as a Tree, and the Gold DSP, and I am yet to use the Wonderland set but I do love your samples. I was looking at the pine trees in the set and thinking that in Australia pine trees are synonymous with the foreshore at many beaches along the Qld coast and maybe that will be a Christmas card I’ll try!
Lovely Bec. I like that punch too!
